I would think that there isn't enough chain wrap on the rear cog so it would slip. I'd guess the bike is more of a gag than anything and was never intended to be ridden

I say keep it up. None of my street stuff I'm wearing one either! Part of street riding (I believe) is not having any special equipment. You just ride in your street clothes.
